Special Assistant on Political Affairs to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan passed away at the age of 70. He was also co-founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and served as its central secretary of information and chairman of PTI Sindh.
Naeemul Haq was born in Karachi on 11 July 1949. He was a banker and a businessman by profession. He has a Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Karachi and LLB from the SM Law College.
He was part of a team that formed branch of National Bank in New York’s UN Plaza. He relocated to London in 1980 as a merchant banker. He also served as EuroAsia’s managing director and Metropolitan Steel’s chairman. He met Imran Khan during his stay in London, and became his close friend.
In 1984 he returned to Karachi and joined Air marshal Asghar Khan’s Tehrik-e-Istiqlal and in 1988, he contested election from Korangi on its ticket.
In 1996, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was founded in Pakistan. After his wife died of cancer in 2008, he focused his attention on PTI. He is also credited with the successful PTI rally in Karachi on 25 December 2011, which made PTI one of the country’s leading political parties..
Naeemul Haque moved to Islamabad in 2012 as Chief of Staff of Imran Khan. He also served as Information Secretary and member of core committee of PTI.
In 2018, he was diagnosed with blood cancer. After winning general elections, he was appointed as Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs.
